The film, directed by Finnish master Aki Kaurismäki, tells a coldly humorous love comedy story about a lonely man and woman who go in both directions through a series of coincidences and accidents.

A lonely soul meets love unexpectedly and melts the rigid life

Set in the gloomy and cold city of Helsinki, the story follows the hero and heroine, Ansa and Horapa, as they navigate the ups and downs of life. Their pure love affair unfolds in the midst of a bleak city plagued by depression and alcoholism. The retro interactions filled with rituals and subtle emotional connections add depth to the storyline, making it both minimalist and sharp.

The ingenious work received rave reviews and premiered in the Mainland as a film festival legacy

Director Aki Kaurismaki’s “Dead Leaves” has been nominated for and won numerous awards, including Best Picture at the Cannes Palme d’Or and the European Film Awards. The film’s unique blend of cold humor and warmth, as well as its use of highly saturated colors and music, has earned it a dedicated fan base. Lead actress Alma Posti also won the 81st Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy for her performance in the movie.
