TURIN. From 1st to 31st December, by purchasing the Coop brand product in all the points of sale in the network, it will be possible to support scientific research against cancer. Nova Coop will donate 1% of the sales value to the Piedmontese Foundation for Cancer Research Onlus to support lung cancer research and prevention. Nova Coop launches, for the third consecutive year, the campaign “Choose the Coop product and TOGETHER we support cancer research”, in favor of the Piedmontese Foundation for Cancer Research – Onlus. From 1 to 31 December, in the 65 stores of the Nova Coop sales network, 1% of the sales value of each food product packaged under the Coop brand will be donated to the Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment – IRCCS of Candiolo for the purchase of equipment that allows the genetic analysis of each single neoplastic cell, both of lung cancer and of other neoplasms, to create personalized drug therapies. Christmas shopping continues to be a weapon in the fight against cancer.
The alliance
The alliance between Nova Coop and the Piedmontese Foundation for Cancer Research – Onlus in favor of scientific research continues. Last year, the campaign made it possible to collect and donate 120,000 euros which were used to finance the GIRT-URO platform – Interdisciplinary Group of Translational Research and Clinical Trials for urological cancers. During the first edition, more than 111,000 euros were collected for the purchase of devices for the early diagnosis and prevention of breast cancer. This year the solidarity campaign will focus on lung cancer. The consumer cooperative thus reaffirms its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, well-being, health education, identified as founding values. In 2020, the Candiolo Institute provided over 1 million 314 thousand outpatient services, welcomed 8,144 patients and treated 1,114 patients with radiotherapy techniques. 464 clinical care workers and 288 researchers work there every day in 37 research laboratories.
The members of Coop
Throughout the month of December, Coop members and consumers will be able to contribute to this cause by choosing Coop branded packaged food products in Nova Coop stores and also by purchasing online on the www.coopshop.it platform. The rest will be done by the cooperative, which will donate 1% of the proceeds from the sale of each package to the purchase of new medical-scientific equipment for the Candiolo Institute, intended for lung cancer prevention, research and treatment. The initiative will also be conveyed through the EnerCasa Coop channels. In 2020, about 41,000 new diagnoses (men 27,550; women 13,300) of lung cancer were estimated in Italy. It is the second most frequent malignancy in men (15%) and the third in women (6%).
Health, well-being, the promotion of correct lifestyles and health prevention have always been essential values for Nova Coop. A commitment that the cooperative carries out on a daily basis through awareness-raising and information initiatives aimed at members, consumers and employees, in support of solidarity associations that deal with cancer patients and the dissemination of a culture of well-being.
The agreement between Nova Coop and the Foundation is not limited to fundraising, but provides for a broader collaboration to promote information, prevention and cultural growth activities.
