The national government ordered the closure of the provincial delegations of the National Communications Entity (Enacom), so it is estimated that there will be added 500 layoffs to the cuts that the administration that the president Javier Miley has been doing in the State. According to sources in the sector, the Government is seeking to reduce 20% of a workforce of almost 2,000 people. The organization was intervened for 180 days at the end of January.
Furthermore, the President has signed a decree that rolls back another of Alberto Fernandez and that will impact the telecommunications industry, the sector that includes cable TV, telephony (landline and mobile) and the Internet.
At the end of August 2020, in the middle of the pandemic, Alberto Fernández signed a decree that declared mobile telephony, Internet and cable TV as competing public services. He froze prices for a time and put the State as controller of all increases that were going to occur from now on.
The measure was criticized by companies and taken to court in many cases. Now it is about to be reversed by another decree, which indicates that mobile telephony, cable and Internet will cease to be public services and that the State will no longer authorize prices.
Enacom: closures and layoffs
According to the resolution, the closures of the Enacom provincial delegations will take place starting next April 1st and a will be established “transition period of 60 days, in order to attend to and reassign the control tasks carried out by the aforementioned provincial delegations.”
Meanwhile, it was defined that there will be “a minimum number of workers to guarantee the tasks that entail the closure of the delegations and the completion of a heritage inventory of everything”.
The resolution also established that it must be “disseminated in the relevant communication channels for a period of 30 days, counting from the publication of this document, the means of attention, submission of complaints and other administrative procedures of the Ente, replacing the face-to-face care provided at the aforementioned headquarters”.
In addition, the National Directorate of Attention to Users and Delegations, the General Directorate of Administration and the General Directorate of Human Resources must be “instructed so that within the framework of their powers they proceed to carry out the tasks aimed at complying with the article 1st of the present”.
According to the resolution, it will begin with a cut of about 400 employees and by the time the closure tasks are completed, layoffs would reach 500.
