In the extraordinary year of 2024, will Hong Kong still be a livable place? After the legislation of Article 23, Hong Kong ushered in another wave of immigrants, and “dispersed Hong Kong residents” became another identity of Hong Kong people. In today’s Hong Kong, should we leave or stay? Leave now or later? Should we go east or west? These are issues that many Hong Kong people are struggling with.
Celia (Zheng Guoen) is a travel photographer and writer. She has traveled to the Arctic, Antarctic, Tibetan Plateau, and seven continents. She is a professional photographer who cooperates with many large organizations and a professional judge for competitions. Now she has published 19 books on travel, is good at writing and photography, and is a freelancer.
After many investigations, she made an important decision in her life – to jump out of her comfort zone and immigrate to the UK alone. In just one month, she will leave Hong Kong. On the eve of saying goodbye to Hong Kong, she held the “Endless Journey” personal photo exhibition at the cafe of the Tsim Sha Tsui Cultural Center, which gathered the beautiful photos she took all over the world over the years. The scenery is also a small summary of her personal achievements before leaving Hong Kong.
“I don’t choose to forget Hong Kong, absolutely not! This place is where I was born and grew up. She has given me a lot of things, so I hope to coexist with her. I will work hard for her and I will also give her good things to introduce it to more people who don’t know her, and then leave a lot of memories for those who know her and care about her, or use different forms to extend her life,” Celia said.
She was very reluctant to leave the place where she was born and raised, but why did she have such a change of mind? What preparations do you make on the road to immigration?
