It promises to be one of the most important (as well as unexpected) musical events of the year: Linkin Park will soon come out with a new single entitled “Friendly Fire”, sung by the historic voice of the Los Angeles group , Chester Bennington.
This song is completely unreleased and was recorded during the rehearsal sessions that led to the recording of “One More Light”, their last studio album, dating back to 2017. A few weeks after completing the work, Bennington took off life in his home in California.
Mike Shinoda
It was Mike Shinoda, the American group’s historic keyboard player, who anticipated the discovery of this song in a recent interview, during which he also spoke about several songs already recorded but never published by the group.
Bennington’s tragic passing
Linkin Park are among the main exponents of the “nu metal” genre which they helped define with their innovative sounds and a style that combines metal, rap and electronics. Considered one of the most influential bands in the history of rock of the last thirty years, after seven studio albums, all very successful, their record production was interrupted by the tragic death of Bennington. The death of the charismatic singer originally from Arizona has left an unfillable void in the world of music and in the hearts of fans, who have continued to follow and support the band and the various projects born in recent years. With “Hybrid Theory”, their debut and most successful album, Linkin Park sold over 27 million copies (overall they exceeded one hundred million). An unmistakable voice that of Bennington who in 2006 was also placed at position 46 in the ranking of the 100 best metal singers of all time drawn up by “Hit Parader”.
The release of “Friendly Fire” (the date of which has not yet been revealed) was announced a year after the release of “Lost”, another unreleased song released in February 2023. It is not clear what type of song may be, but the short teaser of the new song, lasting just 30 seconds, can be heard on the band’s social channels and from the first lines of the short introduction made available, it would seem to be a delicate and melancholy ballad in full Linkin Park style. Not to mention that what makes everything more beautiful is the emotion aroused in fans by being able to find the voice of Chester Bennington, whose memory still accompanies all fans of the American rock group today.
