Living the Dream: The Couple Who Resided in Disneyland for 15 Years

Only one couple fulfilled an extraordinary dream by living in Disneyland for 15 years. Owen and Dolly Pope had the privilege of calling the iconic theme park home from 1955 to 1971. This dream became a reality for the couple thanks to their work at the Pony Farm, Disneyland’s prominent equestrian attraction.

As horse specialists, Walt Disney himself hired Owen and Dolly as consultants when the park first opened. They were responsible for caring for the horses, training them, and maintaining carriages. Initially living in a caravan near the animals, they later moved to the Casa de los Papas, a distinguished residence behind the ranch.

After their time at Disneyland, the Pope’s moved to Florida to work at the newly opened park, where they managed the Tri Circle D Ranch. Despite retiring after four years, their former residence still stands in the park with a commemorative plaque in recognition of their contributions.

The Pope’s house was abandoned for a time before being restored and decorated for visitors to learn about their lives. It was later moved to an area near the park, with its original space now occupied by the Star Wars megapark. A testament to the lasting impact of Owen and Dolly Pope’s incredible journey at Disneyland.
