Madonna Sued by Fans over Delayed New York Show
The iconic American singer, Madonna, is facing a legal battle after two of her fans filed a lawsuit against her for delaying her New York show. Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden have accused the artist of deceptive business practices for starting three concerts two hours late.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Brooklyn, alleges that the shows at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, as part of the tour ‘The Celebration,’ experienced a delay of more than two hours from the time advertised in the brochure and promotion of the event, originally scheduled for 8:30 p.m. The concerts began after 10:40 p.m., causing hardship for fans, who were affected by limited public transportation, limited ride-sharing, and/or increased transportation costs, public or private.
Madonna, Live Nation, and Barclays Center are named as co-defendants in the lawsuit. The complaint alleges breach of contract, violation of New York trade practices, violation of false advertising laws, and various forms of wrongdoing, including unjust enrichment.
The plaintiffs’ attorneys argue that the defendants’ actions constitute not only a breach of their contracts but also a rampant exercise in false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive business practices. They claim that they would not have paid for their tickets if they had known the concerts would start so late.
The lawsuit highlights that this delay is not an isolated case, noting that Madonna has started other concerts late in the city and that this is repeated throughout her career, including previous tours.
Madonna, who is celebrating 40 years of her artistic career, recently embarked on a world tour after recovering from health problems. During her performance in Belgium in October, the singer opened up about her battle with the disease, expressing deep empathy towards her late mother, who died of breast cancer when Madonna was a child.
“It’s a miracle that I’m here right now. My mother, God bless her, she must be watching over me,” said Madonna during her performance, reflecting on her recent health scare.
Madonna has not publicly commented on the lawsuit filed by her fans.
