A new edition of the Met Gala 2024, the charity event organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which featured the participation of prominent figures of cinema, music and entertainment.
Met Gala: What is the exhibition that will open this Monday like?
This historic celebration had its origin in 1948, when the fashion publicist Elanor Lambert created it with the aim of raising funds for the Costume Institute and thus promoting the fashion industry. Every year, the organization in charge of Vogue and Anne Wintour selects the guest list and chooses a theme that will guide the design of the costumes and the decoration of the museum.
Authoritarians don’t like this
The practice of professional and critical journalism is a fundamental pillar of democracy. That is why it bothers those who believe they are the owners of the truth.
At the Met Gala 2024, tribute was paid to nature and the sustainability of the industry under the theme “Sleeping Beauties: The Awakening of Fashion”, inspired by JG Ballard’s story “The Garden of Time”. The dress code included elements related to flowers, butterflies and other natural references, which were also reflected in the decoration of the event.

The co-chairs of the celebration were the actor Chris Hemsworth, the actress Zendaya, the singer Jennifer Lopez and the singer Bad Bunny, who were in charge of introducing the guests on the red carpet.
At the end of last year the theme of the museum’s fashion exhibition was announced: “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. And what is the sample about? Well, as the MET explains: “250 garments and accessories spanning four centuries will be on display, visually linked by nature-related iconographywhich will serve as a metaphor for the fragility and ephemerality of fashion and a vehicle to examine the cyclical themes of rebirth and renewal”.
In short, although the title evokes an image of storybook princesses, the exhibition is not about that, but rather an attempt to present pieces so delicate and fragile that they can no longer be worn on the body. This will serve to highlight the fragility of life, the ephemeral nature of fashion and, more profoundly, to reflect on the cycles of rebirth and renewal. The exhibition will be open to the public from May 10 to September 2.
