Mirror of the times, the letters of March 26

A reader writes:

«I would like to tell an episode of humanity regarding the reception of Ukrainian refugees. My elderly in-laws managed to escape from Lviv and have recently arrived in Italy. Today we had planned to go to the foreign office of the police headquarters in corso Verona. Departure from Pinerolo at 7. The counter opens at 9, but you know: for the bureaucratic procedures it is better to arrive early. At the entrance a courteous employee checks our documents, but the result of the swabs for the grandparents is missing. When they arrived in Italy, we took them to swab the ASL, but the result has not yet come. We get back in the car and rush to the nearest pharmacy. They do not swab and so also in the second. However, they give us the address of a pharmacy in via Oxilia. Here a young pharmacist gives up everything to devote himself to us. In 10 minutes we have the results of the swabs in hand (negative!). “Do not be offended, but I would like to offer you these swabs,” the pharmacist tells us. And then he tells us that he collects and sends medicines to Ukraine. Here, I would just like to say that in these times of violence and despair the angels still exist ».

CLAUDIO LUPO, PINEROLO

A reader writes:

«The premise is important: the serious problems are quite different. However, sticking to the premise, I believe that football should certainly be downsized. For the second time, Italy does not qualify for the World Cup. I hear about the renewal of contracts worth millions of euros, I see teams in the league in which 1/2 Italians play. The universe of the ball look around you, get to know what has been happening in the world for years, consider the constant and growing poverty and reduce wages and lead the players to consider themselves normal beings and not gods on earth. Maybe with more sacrifice you will get better results ».

FONTANA

A reader writes:

«Mirror of the times had hosted my reflection months ago on the lack of a culture of prevention. I had told of the violent and unjust death of my partner Huub Pistoor, a Dutch citizen who has lived in Italy for many years, overwhelmed and killed by a trailer that had detached from the engine of a truck. Despite the technical reports certifying the wear, poor maintenance and dangerousness of the two heavy vehicles, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested the filing for the owners of the company that owns the trailer and truck. An incomprehensible choice that added bewilderment, bitterness and disappointment to the pain. For three years I have been wondering why families are forced to fight to give justice to their loved ones. They are not just private matters but concern the fundamental rights of all citizens, the safety, health and life of people “.
