Miss Universe 2023 Sheynnis Palacios Overjoyed as Family Grows

The family of newly-crowned Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios, has reason to celebrate as the Nicaraguan model is set to become an older sister once again. Palacios recently revealed in an interview with New York-based Fox 5 that her mother, Raquel Cornejo, is pregnant.

“My mother lives in San Francisco (California) and I want to tell you something, my mother is pregnant and I am very happy about that. It’s like a gift of life for me, for her. It is a new beginning, a new life in this country,” Sheynnis told the American television station.

For Miss Universe, the fact that her mother is going to give birth in a country with “so many opportunities for a better life,” such as the United States, is a source of joy for her and for Alexánder, her younger brother who lives in Nicaragua with his grandmother.

Sheynnis announced the news just days after visiting her family in San Francisco and celebrating Christmas with them. Precisely during those days, the Nicaraguan reunited with Cornejo, 43, whom she had not seen since before winning the coveted Miss Universe crown.

During the interview with Fox 5, Sheynnis also assured that she is going to return to Nicaragua with the purpose of sharing the Miss Universe triumph with her compatriots. Although she did not disclose how or when this will be, she was emphatic that this is her intention.

“I want to share with my people and celebrate this historic moment in Nicaragua, so I am preparing my return to the country. I also want to share with my grandmother who lives there with my brother and I am very happy and I can’t wait to be there,” she added.

Given her statements, the model was asked how she took the fact that President Daniel Ortega was not “happy” with her because she participated in protests against him a few years ago. However, Sheynnis refused to answer the question and said: “I am very happy to be here, my journey as Miss Universe and to live this historic moment for my country, because I am the first Nicaraguan woman to win Miss Universe and that “It is the reason we are here and I very much appreciate the invitation.”

Sheynnis Palacios was crowned Miss Universe 2023 last Saturday, November 18 at the José Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium, in San Salvador, capital of El Salvador. She is the first woman from Nicaragua to win the crown.
