Preparing for the performance at the May Day concert is not a legitimate impediment to avoid being heard in a court of law. For this reason, Imperia judge Marta Maria Bossi rejected the request of the lawyers of Marco Castoldi, aka Morgan, accused of defamation against his colleague Cristian Bugatti, aka Bugo.
This is what happened this morning in Imperia where Bugo arrived and was heard by the judge. The story concerns the argument between the two singers that occurred on the fourth evening of the 2020 Sanremo Festival, when Morgan changed the lyrics of the competing song ‘Sincero ‘ and Bugo left the stage.
In February, the first hearing of the trial had already registered a heated controversy on the part of Morgan’s press office which had released this note: «The preparation by Bugo’s press office of the press release disseminated through all the national media precisely during a criminal hearing, as well as the fact that Bugo appeared in court accompanied by a cameraman and his manager, would seem to be a clear attempt by Mr. Cristian Bugatti to exploit the justice system”.
«With the statement from Bugo’s press office we want to make people believe that the aforementioned criminal hearing, relating to a judgment for alleged defamation which does not have as its object the ‘change of verses’ of the song’Sincere‘, concerned facts relating to alleged violations of copyright which are the subject of a separate judgment before the Civil Court of Milan. – Morgan’s press office points out – The criminal hearing of 20 February concerns facts relating to an alleged defamation for the words addressed to Bugo by Morgan during interviews given by the latter following the Sanremo event. The civil judgment pending before another judicial authority, the civil court of Milan, concerns alleged violations of copyright for the ‘change of verses’ during the evening of the 2020 Sanremo Festival”.
In another vein of the same war between singers, the Court of Alessandria had acquitted Morgan of the charge of aggravated defamation, due to the dismissal of the complaint by Bugo’s former manager, Valerio Soave, after having accepted the apologies made to him also publicly by the singer-songwriter.
