ROME – Italians’ desire for two wheels does not stop. The national market of mopeds, scooters and motorbikes continues its positive streak and also shows consistent vitality in June. The data on registrations of the month released by Confindustria Ancma (National Association of Cycle Motorcycle Accessories) describe an overall increase of 34.9% on a more significant and appropriate comparison with 2019. The trend on the same month of 2020 is stable (-0 , 3%), a year marked by closures of the sales network, limitations in movements and significant market rebounds during the summer.

The president of the manufacturers’ association Paolo Magri, commenting on the market trend, spoke of “a sort of state of grace for all mobility on two wheels, which however – he stressed – still has to deal with some supply problems. of vehicles due to the lack of components and the international situation of shipping ”.

“For passion, desire for freedom and restart and also for the indisputable advantages that the two wheels ensure in daily mobility – continued Magri – we register a great interest in the products of our industry and this, after a year of stoppage, delivers to EICMA , the international exhibition event of the sector to be held in Milan next November, a great symbolic and practical value due to its historical ability to gather and enhance the attention of enthusiasts and the sector. It is evident that the specific weight of two wheels has grown in the field of mobility, not just urban, and it is therefore necessary that our requests rise with greater attention on the political agenda of the institutions and the legislator ”.

Getting to the heart of the numbers, a total of 41,545 vehicles (-0.32%) were placed on the market in June (mopeds + registered). The moped market totaled 2,355 vehicles sold, equal to a decrease of 7.39% on the same month of 2020, while scooters and motorcycles recorded respectively 22,599 (+ 1.56%) and 16,591 (-1.75%) vehicles registered. But, compared to 2019, instead the growth is 34.9%.

More generally, in the first six months of 2021, mopeds, scooters and motorcycles recorded an overall increase of 53.5% equal to 176,360 registered vehicles. In particular, mopeds reach 9,809 (+ 23.8%), scooters 92,010 (+ 56.33%) and motorbikes 74,541 (+ 54.95%). Compared to the first six months of 2019, there was an overall increase in the market of 18.7%.

And the electrical sector? It closed the month of June with 1,409 vehicles sold, equal to a growth of 108.4%. The annual growth rate was also positive with 5,120 vehicles and a growth of 29.98%. Also in this area of ​​the market, the comparison with 2019 marks an overall growth of 126.9%.
