Neuralink, Elon Muskās neurotechnology companypublished a video showing his first patient human playing chess with the mind on a computer and talking about the brain implant that makes it possible.
Noland Arbaugh, 29, who was left paralyzed from the shoulders down in an accident diving eight years ago, he talked about playing chess and the video game āCivilization,ā as well as taking classes of Japanese and French, controlling the cursor of a computer screen with your brain.
Ā«Itās crazy, really. Itās greatāsaid Arbaugh, who joked about his telepathy thanks to Neuralink.
Muskās neural research company installed a brain implant in a human for the first time in January in a test that the billionaire boss of Tesla and X touted as a success.
Arbaugh said that He was discharged from the hospital one day after the device was implanted and that he had no cognitive impairment as a result.
āIs left over a lot of work to do, but it has already changed my lifeā, he claimed. āI donāt want people to think this is the end of the journey.ā He said that started thinking about moving the cursor and in the end the implant system reflected his intention.
Arbaugh said that This Halloween he plans to dress up as Charles Xavierthe character from Marvel Comicsā āX-Menā, who although he is in a wheelchair has mental superpowers. āIām going to be Professor X,ā he said. āI think itās quite appropriateā¦ āIām basically telekinetic.ā
How Elon Muskās Neuralink works
An engineer from Neuralink promised in the video, which was posted on X and Reddit, more updates on the patientās progress.
Neuralink technology works through a device from size of five stacked coins which is placed inside the human brain through invasive surgery.
The āstart-upā, co-founded by Musk in 2016, aims to build channels of direct communication between the brain and computers.
