National Peking Opera Company to Launch Numerous New Works in 2024
The National Peking Opera Company is set to impress audiences with a plethora of new Peking Opera works that will be unveiled throughout the year. This exciting announcement was made at the 2024 spring press conference held by the National Peking Opera Theater.
Among the new repertoire planned for release in 2024 are modern Peking opera “Old Auntie” and historical drama “Returning to the Homeland,” both of which focus on realistic and historical themes. Additionally, classic works such as “The Peony Pavilion” and “The History of Women” will be given a fresh twist, while the situational concert “Spring and Autumn” will combine literature and music in a unique and captivating performance.
The National Peking Opera Company will also pay tribute to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China with performances under its two major performance brands, “Sound of Spring” and “Rhyme of Autumn.” The company will launch the 2024 “Sound of Spring” performance season during the “May Day” holiday and the 2024 “Autumn Rhythm” performance season during the “National Day” holiday.
Furthermore, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Peking Opera legends Zhang Chunhua, Cheng Yanqiu, Mei Lanfang, and Ye Shenglan, the National Peking Opera Company will present a series of performances throughout the year. These include “Wu Yue Chunhua – To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Zhang Chunhua,” “One Process of Music and One Process of Love – Series of Performances to Commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the Birth of Mr. Cheng Yanqiu,” “Peerless Elegance – Series of Performances to Commemorate the 130th Anniversary of the Birth of Mr. Mei Lanfang,” and “Deep Roots and Slender Leaves – In Commemoration of Ye Shenglan – Performance Series for the 110th Anniversary of the Birth of Mr. Wang.”
