“We find ourselves here in the presence after two years of pandemic, with all the strength and will that the Fenice, the artists and the RAI put into it” thus begins Fortunato Ortombina, Superintendent of the Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice, at the presentation conference of the New Year’s concert which for 19 years has been broadcast live on Rai1 on the morning of January 1st from the Venetian opera house.
After the alienating experience of last year, when Chorus and Orchestra performed behind closed doors – only live on TV – in a Phoenix desolately empty due to the lockdown on New Year’s Eve, this year the return of the public to the hall is a breath of fresh air. for everyone. Theater already sold-out for the entire capacity of a thousand seats, safety rules and anticovid protocols followed with strict observance for this New Year’s Concert co-produced once again by Rai Cultura.
The Choir with the mask
The Chorus of the Teatro La Fenice has been singing with a mask for a year now, as does the Orchestra. “Since we returned to one hundred percent of the available seats, all spectators also behave with great civility – underlined the Superintendent – the public lines up for the control of the green pass almost with a sort of pride, for the pleasure of return to the theater, which is the place of the community par excellence “.
Therefore, Saturday 1 January 2022 at 11.15 the New Year’s Concert in the Fenice will begin directed by Maestro Fabio Luisi – also director of the 2017 edition – with the soloists Pretty Yende (soprano) and Brian Jadge (tenor) both for the first time in Venice.
Antonin Dvorak
The first part of the concert, exclusively orchestral, includes the performance of Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony From the New World, also broadcast live on RaiRadio3. The second part, on the other hand, dedicated to melodrama, will begin at 12.20 and will be broadcast live on Rai1, with reruns also on Saturday 1 January at 6.15 pm on Rai5 and at 8.00 pm again on RaiRadio 3.
