Someone chose the precise place in which to grow the tree, others limited themselves to the words on the plaque: 21 new plantings created by the Novara green and Legambiente associations in an unusual spring gift. The initiative, in fact, started during the solidarity market by proposing to Novara people to donate a plant as a present. Next Saturday, from 9 to 16.30, the trees with the plaque indicating the names of the donors or those to whom it is dedicated will be “inaugurated”.
They liked the idea and «Adopt a tree» raised 3,500 euros in donations which took the form of 21 new plantings in the Novara neighborhoods. The two associations, in agreement with the Municipality, have selected several kinds of plants: lime, magnoliacea, Prunus, Kanzan (Japanese cherry), all lasting species: the non-profit organizations take care of the planting and will take care of the wetting.
The plantings concern many districts of the city: two are in the park in viale Volta, three on the Allea, two in Santa Rita and as many in Valentino, four are located in the new garden in via Redi while three Prunus embellish the parking area in viale Manzoni. ; two more are planned in via Sesalli, one in piazza Sacro Cuore and two in the park in via Prestinari where their arrival was welcomed by the children of the nearby school in via Fara who “participated” by first wetting the new plants.
The sites were chosen by the donors or, in case of non-indication, by the Municipality according to its green plan, sometimes to replace the felling of diseased trees. On March 19 the itinerant party is scheduled for the “delivery” of the twenty-one gifts to the recipients: on the drums will be applied plaques with the names of the people (or groups) to whom they were dedicated.
«The“ Adopt a tree ”project was born in 2019 to encourage the culture of giving, the sense of care for one’s own territory, the protection of the environment – says Marzia Demarchi, president of Legambiente Il Pioppo -. With this initiative we certainly do not intend to take the place of the Municipality in the care and maintenance of greenery, but we like the idea that the citizen is the protagonist and feels personally involved in these important activities ».

There was a great reactivity on the part of the Novara people, who immediately grasped the value, vitality and delicacy of the idea. Collecting 3,500 euros was certainly not taken for granted. We met many people enthusiastic about this action, which in the end is also a gift to the city and its inhabitants. In fact, each new tree represents a vital piece that favors the balance of our environment, influencing the microclimate, also improving the quality of the air, shielding the noise and summer heat.
