Phoebe Philo is back: she will launch her own brand with the support of LVMH

by admin

Phoebe Philo is back. Or rather, it prepares to return. After leaving Céline in 2017 (a brand she had followed for 10 years and relaunched, but which has changed its soul, as well as having lost its accent, with the new creative director Hedi Slimane), the designer has announced the birth of a brand that will bear its name and in which LVMH (which controls Celine) will have a stake. The first details on the project – which “will have its roots in exceptional quality and design”, according to reports from WWD, will be disclosed from next January. Philo is already working with a small team in London, where he lives with his family.

«I had a very constructive and creative relationship with LVMH for many years – said the British designer -. So it is a natural evolution for us to find ourselves on this new project ». “She is one of the most talented designers of our time,” said Bernard Arnault, LVMH president and CEO – we have known and appreciated her for a long time. Phoebe has contributed to the success of the group through her magnificent creations for many years. And with this in mind, I am very happy to collaborate with you in your entrepreneurial adventure and I wish you great success ».

Already in 2020 there were rumors about Philo’s return to the helm of a sustainable fashion project.

The shareholding, and therefore the amount of LVMH’s investment in the project, was not disclosed. In 2019, the French group had already invested in Fenty’s clothing expansion, derived from Rihanna’s beauty line of the same name, but last February announced a drastic downsizing of the project, which will remain confined to cosmetics, skincare and underwear. A year earlier, in 2018, LVMH had left after nine years the participation in Edun, the ethical fashion brand of Ali Newson, wife of U2 singer Bono Vox.
