May Day Box Office Revenue Exceeds 1.5 Billion Yuan in 2024
The National Film Administration recently released data showing that the box office revenue of China’s film market during the May Day holiday in 2024 exceeded 1.5 billion yuan. This success was accompanied by a record-breaking number of movie screenings, with 2.405 million showings taking place during the holiday period.
One of the top-grossing films during this time was “Peace Keeper,” which brought in NT$406 million. Other successful films included “Thelma and Louise,” “The Siege of Kowloon Walled City,” “Spy House Code: White,” and “Howl’s Moving Castle.”
The diverse range of film genres, including action, comedy, romance, and animation, catered to audiences of all ages. The quality of production, from plot development to special effects, received high praise from viewers and demonstrated the immense potential of the Chinese film market.
The surge in box office revenue was attributed to the stable operation of cinema projection equipment, particularly the ALPD laser light source from Film Optoelectronics. With over 29,500 installations in China, the ALPD laser light source has significantly improved brightness and extended the service life of projectors, contributing to the overall success of the May Day movie market.
Guangfeng Technology, a leader in laser display technology, has played a crucial role in advancing projection technology in cinemas. By launching the VLED LED Cinema projection solution, the company has further enhanced the viewing experience for audiences and opened up new opportunities for growth in the cinema market.
With audience expectations for movie quality on the rise, innovative technologies like LED movie screens are becoming increasingly popular. China Film Optical Peak, as a technology platform service provider in the film industry, remains committed to offering cutting-edge solutions for customers seeking differentiated and personalized viewing experiences.
Industry analysts have praised this year’s May Day box office performance, citing the rich supply of new films and the diverse preferences of moviegoers as key factors in the market’s success. As the national box office surpassed 20 billion yuan on May 4, the positive momentum from the May Day holiday bodes well for the future of the Chinese film industry.
