Remembering ‘El Ecoloco’: The Legacy of Humberto Espinosa Magaña and Odisea Burbujas in Mexico City

Mexican actor Humberto Espinosa Magaña, known for his role as ‘El Ecoloco’ in the popular children’s series Odisea Burbujas, passed away last Friday, as reported by various media outlets. The news of his death was confirmed by sources close to his family through a radio station, although the cause of death was not specified.

Espinosa was the original actor to portray ‘El Ecoloco’ when the series first aired in the 1980s. The character’s main objective was to spread contamination and he traveled in his ‘filthmobile’ through time. The show, which originated on the radio, followed the adventures of characters like ‘Professor AG Memelovsky’, ‘Patas Verdes’, ‘Mimoso Ratón’, ‘Mafafa Musguito’, and ‘Pistachón Zig-Zag’, all of whom had the ability to travel through time and space.

Under the direction of Enrique Segoviano, Odisea Burbujas ran for five seasons before its final episode aired on October 7, 1984. It remains a beloved and iconic children’s program in Mexico.

After his time on the show, Magaña continued to work in entertainment, including voice acting in films such as A Scary Movie. In 2018, Canal Once revived the series as Planeta Burbujas and invited Magaña to reprise his role as ‘El Ecoloco’, but he had to decline due to health concerns following hip operations that affected his mobility.

Humberto Espinosa Magaña leaves behind a legacy of bringing joy and entertainment to children through his memorable portrayal of ‘El Ecoloco’ on Odisea Burbujas.
