The renowned musician and composer Roy Tavaré recently spoke out against the new song “La más viral” by Yailin, criticizing it as a Selena-style cumbia. In a scathing statement, Tavaré referred to the young singer as a “banana with a body” for featuring mariachis in the music video of the single from her debut album, “Resilience.”
While some fans of Yailin may see the move as a way to garner attention, Tavaré expressed disappointment, accusing the urban artist of not caring about the authenticity of her music. He went on to say that the collaboration with mariachis was an embarrassment to the music industry and implied that it was disrespectful to Mexican culture.
Tavaré also called out the creators of the song and the production team, labeling them as “yams” and criticizing their lack of understanding of the genre. He emphasized the importance of respecting traditions such as mariachi and cumbia, particularly in a genre as culturally significant as Latin music.
Yailin, who released “I love you” as a sneak peek of her upcoming EP, has yet to respond to Tavaré’s comments. The EP will include six more tracks, such as “DM”, “Como te felt”, “Amigos”, “Sola”, Call me” and “69”. The clash between Tavaré and Yailin highlights the ongoing debate within the music industry about authenticity and cultural appropriation.
