San Diego, USA – On March 16, 2024, the Chinese Art Society in San Diego, California held its 30th Art Competition Award Ceremony at the San Diego Chinese History Museum. The event was a celebration of young artists and their achievements, with a garden full of students, parents, teachers, directors, and guests in attendance.

The annual youth art competition has been a cornerstone of the Art Society for three decades. Fawei, former president and long-time chairman of the art group, reflected on the society’s journey, stating that it has not been easy but with perseverance, support, and donations, they have been able to continue promoting and encouraging children’s interest in art.

Outgoing president Shao Leilei expressed gratitude to the donors for their continuous support over the years, highlighting the importance of scholarships in fostering young talent. She emphasized the need for the Art Society to carry forward its mission and continue supporting young artists.

This year, a total of 199 students participated in the competition, with 68 award-winning works selected across different age groups. Ellie Chen, a junior high school student, received the grand prize for her painting “A Quiet Busy Home” and decided to donate the piece to the Art Society as a token of appreciation for their support.

Many local art schools and classrooms run by Chinese Americans have been active participants in the competition, with principals and teachers praising the platform provided by the Art Society for young artists to showcase their talents and express themselves through art.
