Griselda: Sofía Vergara reveals the hidden health complications behind playing the role of the Colombian drug trafficker
Sofía Vergara, known for her recent work in the Netflix series Griselda, opened up about the challenging experiences she faced and the health problems she suffered during the recording of said production. Despite the success and attention the miniseries has garnered, the actress shared that the intense performance for the feared role of the Colombian drug lord had detrimental effects on her health, causing lasting damage to her back.
“Due to her performance in Griselda, Sofía Vergara has given a lot to talk about in recent weeks,” a statement reads. “However, for Sofía Vergara, playing the feared Colombian drug trafficker came to affect her health.”
One particular instance she revealed happened when she missed a set because she became stiff from the strain of her demanding and physical role. In newspaper conferences, she spoke of endangering her physical quality and compromising her posture to a point that may have caused irreversible damage. “For 6 months I walked hunchbacked,” Vergara expressed, citing how she put her body under strain, particularly at 50 years of age, enduring a level of physical discomfort.
The actress went into detail that she was unaware of the tremendous extent of damage she was inflicting due to the ongoing role, in which she played the character of Griselda Blanco. Despite the physical complications, she said that the pain recedes as time goes by, and she has been treated with a series of injections. Although Vergara utilizes body doubles and stunt performers for the more intense action scenes, the role still significantly impacted her health and well-being.
It appears that despite Griselda’s overwhelming success among fans and viewers, it came at a cost to the lead actress. Sofía Vergara’s efforts to stay true to the character’s real-life persona led her to endure potentially long-term health issues, demonstrating the immense dedication she put into the role.
