Tataborello, feminine bijoux as soft as fabrics

Sparkling accessories, unique and distinctive bijoux, jewelry collections that enhance every day and evening outfit. Federica Borello, a Turin-based designer, founded in 2001 a company that has become a reference in top-of-the-range costume jewelery. From semi-precious stones to Swarovski crystals, the brand offers bijoux with fine craftsmanship and workmanship.
The necklaces, bracelets and earrings signed by Tataborello are born from the search for innovative processes that decline unique, versatile and original objects.

“I grew up in the world of fashion: my family had founded Juvenilia and one of the two lines was called Federica – she says -. Since I was a child I liked to string beads, use ribbons and weave with precious materials so as a girl I decided to study at Polimoda in Florence, specializing in knitwear ».

Many of the soft and versatile processes that Federica imported into costume jewelery derive from the research of knitwear. «After school I opened my own business, focusing on craftsmanship and the quality of the materials – she says – she. Even though I have lived abroad for seven years (today in Brussels), the production activity remains in Turin where the brand was born ». And she adds: «The brand name may seem bizarre and is often spoken in a funny way abroad. I chose it because it combines my nickname with my surname ».

The company is all female: a team of 11 women, ten in Turin, employees who work from home. Production is made to order. About 10 thousand pieces are made every year. A new flagship item today are the rings, an object for which a system was invented with a goldsmith that allows you to adjust them as measure, in an almost invisible way. “Half of the orders are now rings, which were launched a year ago,” she says.

Among the leading products there is also the Anita necklace, model of tourmaline and amethyst necklaces. «We are not goldsmiths, but we were joined by a goldsmith who helped us to study the cages that contained crystals in order to let the light pass – explains Federica -. I like to work with technicians who can highlight our work ». The crystals are bought in the Czech Republic and their patina is removed which makes them shiny and therefore they become transparent. «Our samples have 30 color-she-says references. Over the years we have also worked for fashion brands that ask for ad hoc products, as happened with Cristina T and Moschino ».
