Textile and supply chain sustainability drives business and agreements to MilanoUnica

by admin

The closing figures of MilanoUnica, with Italian and foreign visitors well above expectations, are important, but they only partially measure the success of the first show in attendance (270 exhibitors) in the Rho district at the time of Covid. Among the stands of the high-end textile event on 6 and 7 July there was an air of recovery and a desire to invest in research, especially linked to sustainability, a broad and long-term theme by definition, to which MilanoUnica was dedicated. The vitality of textiles – an integral and precious part of the Italian fashion supply chain – is also confirmed by the agreements announced during the fair.

Starting with Hemp, historical reality in the Como district of San Fermo della Battaglia, the first textile company in the world to sign the Detox Commitment of Greenpeace. During MilanoUnica, the agreement with Azimut’s Capital Solutions Eltif fund was formalized as part of the corporate relaunch plan. At the same time, the activation of the fund for the safeguarding of employment levels and the continuation of business activity is envisaged, introduced by the Relaunch Decree and managed by Invitalia. which will take a minority stake in Canepa.

RadiciGroup, a group of 3 thousand employees with a 2020 turnover of over one billion euros, participated in Milano Unica with the Advanced Textile Solutions division of yarns with reduced environmental impact, such as Renycle, coming from the recycling of nylon 6, Repetable, a polyester yarn from the recovery of pet bottles, and with the Biofeel range, which includes all the proposals from renewable sources. Within the Trends area there was also Filo, a fair dedicated to yarns which will in turn be present again for its 56th edition at MiCo in Milan on 29 and 30 September and which has been working in synergy with MilanoUnica for years. Once again, research and the circular economy are the protagonists, with FiloFlow, the exclusively sustainable yarn project initiated by Filo.

Investments despite the annus horribilis for the entire sector also for the Lanificio F.lli Cerruti 1881 di Biella, since 2018 controlled by the London fund Njord Partners and led, since October 2020, by Filippo Vadda. On 2 July Cerruti fabrics were co-protagonists of the An excellent summer event, organized in Forte dei Marmi by the Salotto in Milan and which was attended by tailor-made clothing companies (Angela Bellomo), goldsmiths and leather goods, to promote the high-end Italian supply chain as a whole. The link with training is crucial: during MilanoUnica the Costume & Moda Academy presented the projects of the students of the Master in fabrics innovation design, in partnership with many companies (Clerici Tessuto, Dondi Jersey, Dyloan Bond Factory, Lanificio di Sordevolo, Ratti) and with The Woolmark Company.
