The legendary orchestra director Willie Rosario celebrated his 100 years of life with a spectacular concert at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Puerto Rico. The event, titled “The 100 Years of Willie Rosario,” brought together an orchestra, three salsa singers, and the best audience, creating a perfect evening of music and celebration.
The concert featured a journey through the career of Rosario’s orchestra, with videos, photos, and historical clippings highlighting his 64-year musical legacy. The orchestra, known as the “Banda que Deleita,” did not disappoint, with iconic songs such as “De Barrio Obrero a la 15” and “La Cuesta de la Fama” getting the audience on their feet and dancing.
The show featured performances by singers Chamaco Rivera, Tony Vega, and Gilberto Santa Rosa, who delighted the audience with their renditions of classic songs. The young singers of the Rosario orchestra, José de Jesús, José “Machete” Díaz, and Erick Robles, also impressed with their vocal skills and stage presence.
Trumpeter Humberto Ramírez joined the concert to celebrate Rosario’s legacy, performing an instrumental song dedicated to the maestro. The concert closed with a special performance by Rosario, Vega, and Santa Rosa, who entertained the audience with a series of hit songs, including “Babarabatiri,” “Obra sealeda,” and “Lluvia.”
Throughout the evening, Rosario showcased his talent as a timbalero, leading the orchestra with precision and flair. Despite some playful banter from Vega and Santa Rosa, Rosario remained composed and in control, delivering a memorable performance that left the audience cheering for more.
