The boom of the electric car, in the first six months already exceeded the sales of 2020

ROME – Registrations registered in Italy in the first half of 2021 exceeded the 2020 total by over 300 units. The analysis emerges from an analysis by the Autopromotec Observatory based on Aci data. From 2017 to 2020, registrations of BEVs in Italy grew by 1,394%: in 2017 they were just 2,104 at the national level; in 2018 there were 5,059 and in 2019 they were 10,919, to reach 31,433 in 2020.

The provisional figure for 2021 instead indicates 31,734 electric vehicles sold in Italy in the first six months. At the basis of the substantial increase recorded, there is certainly the availability of state incentives for a longer period of time than in 2020, also conditioned by the lockdown. At a regional level, it emerges that Trentino-Alto Adige has the highest number of 100% electric vehicles registered in Italy: 7,113 in the whole of 2020 and 6,246 already in the first six months of 2021.
The second Italian region by number of registered BEVs is Lombardy (6,454 in the whole of 2020 and 5,923 already in the first half of 2021), the third is Lazio (4,087 in all of 2020 and 3,504 already in the first six months of 2021).

The regions with the lowest number of electric vehicles registered in recent months are Molise (just 39 in the whole of 2020 and 37 in the first six months of 2021) and Basilicata (80 in 2020 and 96 in the first half of 2021). The data of Trentino-Alto Adige, Lazio and Tuscany are conditioned by the fact that the most important Italian rental companies are based in these regions, among the main buyers of electric vehicles in our country.

The revolution represented by electric mobility also closely affects car repairers called upon to try their hand at ordinary and extraordinary maintenance which, on this type of vehicle, requires particular attention. Instead of operations such as replacing spark plugs, injectors or filters, there are others, such as checking the efficiency of batteries, control units and other components, in addition to the usual interventions related to driving safety and on tires, shock absorbers and braking system.

According to the Autopromotec Observatory, it is therefore essential that car repairers are properly trained not only on the electrical engineering and functionality of the BEVs, but also on the safety measures to be adopted when working on live parts. There is therefore a need, hand in hand with the spread of the electric car, for an ever greater specialization of car repairers, in order to ensure an effective, safe and quality after-sales service for electric vehicles as well.
