ROME – In the first quarter of 2021, hybrid electric vehicles in the EU, EFTA and UK areas recorded an increase of 90.4 (to almost 594 thousand units) compared to the same period of the year, bringing the market share of this segment in the EU at 18.4%, almost double that of a year earlier. This was stated by Acea, the European association of car manufacturers.
From January to March, the volumes recorded in the diesel market decreased in Europe by 23.4% compared to the same period last year; most markets recorded double-digit declines in this segment, including three of the top four: Germany (-29.4%), Spain (-28.3%) and France (-11.1%). Likewise, demand for gasoline cars continued its downward trend, with sales down 19.1 percent.
