The Beijing New Year Concert returned to the Great Hall of the People after a 4-year hiatus, bringing joy and festive spirit to the audience as they celebrated the beginning of the Lunar New Year.
Conductor Zheng Jian led the Beijing Symphony Orchestra in a jubilant performance of the “Spring Festival Overture” on the evening of February 1. The stage was adorned with red lanterns, creating a lively and festive atmosphere, as nearly 200 performers from various choirs and orchestras took to the stage.
Since its founding in 2005, the “Beijing New Year Concert” has become a well-established cultural event, marking the arrival of the Lunar New Year with traditional folk songs, classic melodies, and representative songs of the new era. This year’s concert featured renowned singers such as Liu Danli, Wu Bixia, and Mo Hong, captivating the audience with their powerful and emotive performances.
The concert was divided into four chapters, revolving around the themes of “Family”, “Friendship”, “Nostalgia”, and “Happiness”. The repertoire included a variety of folk songs with regional characteristics, as well as modern representative songs such as “China in the Lights” and “Pilot”.
Wu Bixia’s performance of “China in the Lights” and Mo Hong’s rendition of “Leading the Navigation” were particularly memorable, earning enthusiastic cheers and applause from the audience. The evening concluded with all the performers joining together to sing “My Motherland” and “Singing the Motherland”, creating a climactic and heartfelt finale.
Mo Hong, who has been a regular performer at the “Beijing New Year Concert”, expressed her deep connection to the event and its significance in promoting traditional and contemporary music. She praised the concert for showcasing the talents of different generations and for its enduring impact on the music industry and performing arts market.
The 20th “Beijing New Year Concert” was hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra leading the event and support from the China International Cultural Exchange Center and Beijing Youth Daily. The return of this cherished event to the Great Hall of the People marked a joyous start to the Lunar New Year celebrations, bringing together people from all walks of life to enjoy the music and festivities.
