To dream of a house by the sea

Homes in Vince Beach and Byron Bay. Images from around Pinterest

My inspirations for a home atmosphere can be summed up in the following formula: 85% house by the sea + 15% house of a lecturer at Berkeley/scientist at the Weizmann Institute.
The part of the lecturer in Berkeley is expressed in piles of books in almost every room, the preference for natural materials and light colors is responsible for the atmosphere of the house by the sea in almost every point where there is a possibility to choose.
You know this dream: Houses in the atmosphere of Venice Beach in California, Byron Bay in Australia or Beit Yanai in Israel. A cool floor that you walk barefoot on with tanned feet in the summer or braided rugs with a few bright poufs that you curl up on with cream sweats and thick socks in the winter. and baskets. Baskets everywhere.

Basic is a place that seemed to be born to satisfy this fantasy, and the word “as if” is unnecessary here, because behind Basic are Einat and Anat, two companies whose taste, not to mention their lives, embody exactly this dream.

***Basic celebrates its 15th birthday this year And in honor of the celebrations: 15% discount with the code SHELLY15***
The code will be active on the website and in the stores (the huge flagship store in Beit Yehoshua and the small store in Osishkin in Ramat Hasharon) until Saturday, 1/13, at midnight.
(The code will not work on jewelry, furniture, flower pots and the photos from Africa).

Later in the post, there will be private shopping and paparazzi for all kinds of basic things that live in my house, but first: a peek behind the scenes and a little deeper acquaintance with another local brand that makes our lives more beautiful.

Very nice, Einat Erleboim (left), originally a graphic designer andAnat Even Tovoriginally an interior designer.
My and Basic’s relationship began quite early in his life, when the store was inside a trailer in Moshav Odim and I was on the coveted waiting list for defective bedding (yes, there was such a thing). In recent years Dalit Lavi and I have done several sales there together, so maybe we even met there.

how did you meet
“We met on the paths of Moshav Odim when our firstborn were born. We found out that Einat’s husband grew up with Anat in Rishon and we also found out that we have babies born three days apart (the babies are already twenty years old). Of course we said we had to meet and of course it didn’t happen. Only after two years, when the boys entered kindergarten, we met again and within a second we connected.
At this point we discovered that our tastes are really the same, our houses look the same, our clothes look the same. Even our dreams were similar. Anat was then an interior designer and Einat a graphic designer. From there the families connected and we became really close. We knew all along that in the end we would do something together, and really after Einat’s second son was born and she decided she wasn’t going back to the studio in Tel Aviv, it happened.’

the beginning
“Our initial idea was to collect beautiful things from around the world and sell them at home sales, but very quickly we realized that we both know how to do so many things ourselves and also know how we want everything to look, so we gave up on mediation and hit the road.
We carved and sanded and sewed and worked in ceramics and engaged all the family members in sewing and knitting. We found artisans who work with ancient methods all over the country, and we printed by hand and collected things on the beach – which is the inspiration for everything. We worked with wood and oars thrown from the sea. with shells and stones.
After a few months of work, the first collection was born, and we made our first sale in a beautiful warehouse of alcohol with a concrete floor, exposed walls and a huge barn door, a place that sits next to the barn, next to a flower shop and next to a blooming flower field.
Then we did another sale which was also very successful and from there it started to roll. We started from home and in the third year we rented the train car in Odes in a breathtaking farm and we were there for several years. At first we sold in boutiques all over the country, and now we focus on our stores: a large space in Beit Yehoshua and a store in Ramat Hasharon.’
(Today, Basic’s items are manufactured in Israel and India, and the stores also have items collected from Morocco, Indonesia and South Africa).

I found a picture I took in the yard of the caravan in Audis a few years ago

How did you decide on the stylistic and color focus?
“This choice is natural for us, we never talked about it or made a decision. We just wanted to connect and do what we love, and this is what we love. Everything with us starts from nature and especially from the sea. The white of the foam, the light linen shades of the sand, the blue of the sky and the blue that also has some green of the water. We are also influenced by the seasons: when you enter Basic in the winter there is an autumn grayness and in the summer there is a kind of happy glow.
Everything here is very us and we are very consistent in our taste. If we could get everything we sold in the first sale 15 years ago, we would still be selling everything today without changing anything.’

What do you think should be in every home?
“We like to have pampering bedding in the house, including textiles that make you want to: pillows on the sofa that you want to jump on or pillows on the carpet that you want to lie on and not get up. Must be green and flower pots. It’s fun to have something a little wild around: shells and items with character, things made of not very processed wood. What a conch. Something old with character.’

(Some of) basic things that live in my house and also some private shopping for those who need it:

01 cloud cover This is probably Basic’s flagship product (or maybe that’s just me). Made of combed organic cotton (most similar to a cozy t-shirt) and Holifiber filling. There are those who say they sleep with them all year round, for me it’s too cold in the winter and I go into a serious downpour.
02 Linen. The sheets are also made of the same combed organic cotton as the cloud blanket.
03 Bed cover wfli. The one in the picture on my bed is the color of stone.
04 Carpets. Basic has a lot of rugs that don’t take themselves seriously and make any space look Californian. I have a gray stone wash rug in the kitchen that has already been washed countless times (its appearance even improves after washing). The store in Beit Yehoshua has a huge selection of carpets beyond what is available on the website.
05 Sofa cushions. From Nancy Meyers we learned that there is no such thing as too many pillows.
06 Towels with seams. Pleasant, soft and photogenic.
07 Photographs of the sea. Works by Shaanat and Einat cameras (the ones I have are pictures from the beach Anat goes to). They are not on the website, but it is worth stopping by to see.
08 baskets laundry basket? Yes. Paper basket in the study? Definitely. Something to put spare toilet paper in? Lucky we have enough baskets.
09 Basic’s voice files. My favorites: square backpack and travel bag.
10 Something small: solid lemon grass soap with palm tree inlay.

Some tips for looking like a house on the beach even if you don’t live near the beach (we won’t mention names):
– Lots of light. Natural and light shades will help this even if there is not too much natural light.
– Textures that can be touched: say, braided chairs. Braided carpets (braided is a key word). Tetra or pika TV blankets, linen pillows.
– Comfortable and soft furniture (if it can also be in the waiting room of a law firm, it will not be in this particular house).
– Straw. Straw lampshades. Straw baskets.
– Photographs of the sea, which will be placed on horizontal surfaces and will not be attached to the walls because you never know when you will go on a trip around the world again.
– Oysters in a bowl at the entrance to the house. I have some faint memory that it also contributes in the Feng Shui sector.

It is true that a California song is requested here, but at this point in my life I am in an orchard near the water tower.
