Tony Leung Sets New Record with Sixth Best Actor Win at Hong Kong Film Awards

At the recent “42nd Hong Kong Film Awards,” veteran actor Tony Leung made history by winning the Best Actor award for the sixth time, setting a new record for the prestigious accolade. Leung, known for his acclaimed performances in films such as “Chungking Express,” “In the Mood for Love,” and “Infernal Affairs,” was honored for his role in the movie “Goldfinger.”

The awards ceremony, held on the evening of the 14th, saw Leung’s wife, Carina Lau, accepting the award on his behalf as the actor was away filming in Germany. Lau, who wore a lobster costume to the event, expressed her pride in her husband’s achievement and emphasized Leung’s dedication to his craft over the years.

In a video call speech, Leung expressed his gratitude to the entire film industry for their support and dedicated the award to his longtime collaborator and supporter, Sister Jialing. The Best Actor award was originally supposed to be presented by Lau Ching Wan and Anita Yuen, but due to Wan’s illness, actor Louis Koo took over the duties.

The event also saw director Wang Jing expressing his discontent with Leung’s win, stating that “Goldfinger” was not the actor’s best performance. However, fans and supporters of Leung defended his win, praising his contributions to Hong Kong cinema over the years.

Apart from Leung’s win, the ceremony also recognized other talented individuals in the industry, with awards given out in various categories such as Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress. Notable winners included Yu Xiangning, David Chiang, and Liang Yongting.
