ROME – The expansion of electrification is inevitably also expanding into motorsport. Thus, after having infected both four and two wheels, next year under the aegis of the Union Internationale Motonautique the Uim-E1 World Championship reserved for electric boats will debut. The development of the single hull is proceeding at full speed and after the success of the first tests on the foils (the appendages that allow the hull to “fly” on the water) and the speed tests for the RaceBird, carried out on the Po, at the Uim-E1 they just have the name of the first team that will compete in the inaugural 2023 season.

The Venice Racing Team is a “made in Italy” team, created ad hoc to compete in this championship, and was already born with a soul closely linked to water and electric boats. In fact, the team was created to offer a focus and a platform for the many Venetian institutions and companies that share the desire to build a sustainable future.

The farsighted vision of the entrepreneur Francesco Pannoli, at the head of the entire operation, has made it possible to give life to this team with the collaboration of Claudio Iannelli, consultant for the energy system, Luigi Radice, world champion of offshore and expert in competitions and Eugenio Razelli, specialist in the motorsport sector.

The match also includes François Richard of Laneva Boats who will supervise the economic side and Nicolò Muraro of Meneghini & Associati who will manage the communication, while the pilots of the electric boat will be announced at the Venice Boat Show (28 May – 5 June ). “I am proud to announce the Italian team as the first ‘new entry’, ready to compete in our first world championship of electric boats – explained Rodi Basso, co-founder and CEO of E1 – We are thrilled to welcome Venice Racing Team to the E1 family. , especially now that RaceBird hit the water for the first time earlier this month. Having a team to represent the city of Venice is ideal for E1 and for our shared desire to accelerate the development of electric mobility in urban waters. Venice itself has a special bond with water, as well as being one of the most iconic cities to be associated with a team, also given its enormous credentials in the sustainability sector, so much so that it is one of the world‘s eco-capitals “.

It should be noted that among the objectives of the Venice Racing Team, in addition to aiming for the victory of the competition, there is also that of actively promoting the protection of the lagoon, the residential ecosystem and the great artistic heritage of the city. “Right now we are in talks with a dozen other potential teams from different sectors of sport, from classic motor boating to sailing, up to the automotive world – added Basso – We are also carrying out some negotiations with different brands, companies and organizations that they would like to compete as a team in the Uim-E1 world championship. We are starting to outline the line-up for our first racing season in 2023 and it is really exciting ”. (Maurilio Rigo)
