Volvo like smartphone, the update is online

ROME – All new Volvo car models, starting with model year 2023, are now available with over-the-air (Ota) software update functionality, which allows users to receive the upgrade without having to go to the workshop. After being initially launched on the full electric cars of the Volvo range, the Ota functionality also arrives for the latest XC90, S60 and V60 models, thus making it possible to update the entire vehicle operating system over the air for the entire product portfolio of the Swedish car manufacturer.

Volvo owners will benefit from an update of their infotainment system to the latest version of Android Automotive OS, Android 11, and will be able to have new categories of apps on Google Play, including those for navigation, charging and parking area. Thanks to constant collaboration with the Mountain View giant (Volvo Cars’ infotainment system is jointly developed with Google), streaming of video content will also be introduced later in the year.

It should be noted that the latest Ota update brings several improvements starting from better energy management by optimizing timers for pre-conditioning, to updating the functionality of the mobile app and the applications in the car. ā€œBy ensuring that all Volvo models can receive over-the-air updates, we are taking important steps towards our goal of improving our customers’ cars on a daily basis – said Henrik Green, product manager at Volvo Cars – This is a milestone. significant: we are now updating the cars of all models in most of our markets, allowing more and more customers to benefit from the advantages of continuous remote updates ā€.

Finally, thanks to in-house software development and OTA updates, Volvo Cars is always able to add new features and improve existing ones without having to worry about owners of the Swedish car. (Maurilio Rigo)
