Representatives of Congress and the United States government assure that the platform poses a national security threat if controlled by or linked to ByteDance.

Among the arguments raised was that the platform could be used to collect data and spy on American citizens or as a powerful propaganda channel for China.

TikTok took it upon itself to firmly deny these accusations and assured that data from American users was never and will never be shared with Beijing.
