The British woman who starred as a child for years in the children’s series ‘Teletubbies’ has given birth to her first child. Jess Smith herself announced this on social media.

“A whole week with you,” Smith writes with a photo of her newborn baby’s hand. The gender or name of the child is not yet known.

Smith ended up in the world-famous toddler series very coincidentally. The makers knocked on the door of a local hospital looking for parents to ask if they could use their young ones for a TV series. For a long time it was not clear who the child in the sun was.

It wasn’t until she was nineteen that Jess came clean. “I kept it a secret throughout my childhood, but encouraged by friends at university, I made it public,” she said several years ago. “Some people claimed they were the sun, but I am the one and only.”

She herself cannot remember anything about the recordings, because she was only nine months old. She came to the hospital for a routine check-up. The staff passed on her details to the TV makers because she laughed so much. “And yet I still had to go through a few rounds of auditions,” says the woman. “When we were recording, my dad would hold a teddy bear behind the camera which made me laugh. Other times I was put in front of a mirror. When I saw myself, I laughed too.” Jess worked with Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po from 1997 to 2001.
