Minister of Health Allocates 10 Million Euros to Fight Eating Disorders
The Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, recently announced that he has allocated a significant amount of funds to combat eating disorders in Italy. Through an amendment to the Milleproroghe decree, Schillaci has made the Fund available against eating disorders with resources equal to 10 million euros for 2024. This announcement was made during a question time in the Chamber where the Minister assured that the full provision of services will be guaranteed with the entry into force of the new tariff nomenclature on April 1st.
The Minister also emphasized that with the new tariff nomenclature and the further updating of the LEAs, full financial coverage will finally be guaranteed in a structural way for the provision of services for the benefit of all patients suffering from eating disorders, making any extraordinary temporary fund that has been tested so far no longer necessary.
It was also noted that “59% of the financing committed by Regions-Provinces” has already been utilized. The Minister highlighted that to date, the interim reports presented show that the Regions and autonomous Provinces have committed 59% of the financing foreseen by the Fund for the years 2022 and 2023 and have spent only 3% of the overall financing. The fund had an endowment of “15 million for 2022 and 10 million for 2023, and the overall resources were distributed based on the excess portions of needs.
Minister Schillaci underlined his commitment to combating the spread of eating disorders, especially among young people, and expressed his dedication to addressing these issues during his tenure. The measures to combat the problems relating to eating disorders have always received a lot of attention from the Minister due to the particular spread of these disorders, especially among young people. With these new funds, the Minister is hopeful that Italy will be better equipped to address the growing issue of eating disorders and provide necessary support to those in need.
