The research suggests that dancing can be a more sustainable form of exercise for those struggling to maintain habits or motivation for traditional workouts such as running or going to the gym. The study was a meta-analysis that included data from 646 overweight or obese participants across 10 different studies. It found that dancing is effective in improving body composition, and that more creative dance forms produced more significant improvements than traditional dance forms.

In addition to weight loss and improved body composition, the study also found that dancing offers further benefits for overweight children and patients with Parkinson’s disease. The researchers observed a significant advantage of dancing in reducing the percentage of fat when compared to other forms of exercise such as aerobic exercise, resistance training, and high-intensity interval training.

The study concludes that dancing is an effective and sustainable form of exercise for fat loss and improving body composition, particularly for the young population, and can be a suitable substitute for traditional exercise protocols.
