Indiana Primary Election 2024: Voters Consider Candidates for Governor, U.S. Senate
As voters across Indiana cast their ballots in the 2024 primary election, the race for governor and U.S. Senate generated significant interest. Incumbent Governor Eric Holcomb and Senator Mike Braun are not seeking re-election, leading to a crowded field of candidates vying for these positions.
Governor Holcomb was unable to run for a third term due to state laws limiting the governor to two four-year terms within a 12-year period. The Republican primary for governor featured several candidates, including Senator Mike Braun, former state auditor and current lieutenant governor Suzanne Crouch, former Attorney General Curtis Hill, Eric Doden, and Jamie Reitenour.
Senator Braun emphasized the need for local and hands-on tactics to address Indiana’s issues, while Crouch proposed eliminating the state’s income tax. Hill focused on cutting spending and increasing investment in law enforcement, Doden advocated for pro-life policies and no-cost adoptions, and Reitenour prioritized reducing spending and bureaucracy for small businesses.
In the Democratic primary for governor, Jennifer McCormick, a former teacher and state superintendent of public instruction, ran unopposed. McCormick’s platform emphasized investments in public education and a return to bipartisan governance.
Voters also chose candidates for U.S. Senate and other statewide positions on the primary ballot.
