A network of sensors to manage heavy traffic on roads and bridges

by admin

An intelligent network to manage heavy traffic, monitoring overloaded vehicles and sorting them on alternative routes to avoid dangerous situations. And therefore making the roads safer thanks to technology and innovation.

Precisely with this objective, the Sentinel project was born (dynamic weighing system for heavy traffic management) developed at the Enea Research Center in Trisaia (Matera) in collaboration with the Train Consortium (with the two actuators of the University of Salerno and Ett SpA) , Takius srl and Anas Spa.

The project is characterized by a system composed of advanced dynamic weighing sensors, hi-tech sensors, innovative software and hardware capable of identifying overloaded vehicles in real time and sorting them on alternative routes avoiding dangerous situations. A way to safely manage heavy vehicle traffic on roads, highways, bridges and viaducts.

Specifically, the prototype will consist of a weighing system with a mechanical part equipped with sensors that will deform as vehicles pass. Then a software part which, having received the deformation signal of the mechanical element, will translate it into weight by means of algorithms.

Therefore a device for the classification and measurement of the speed of the vehicle and a software interface for integration with the Intelligence Transport Systems and the various smart road of the road manager.
