Today (Monday 28 February) we celebrate the 15 years of the “Rare disease day”, the world day of rare diseases. More than 300 million people in the world, 2 million in Italy alone, are affected by rare diseases, often difficult to diagnose and treat. The S. Croce and Carle Hospital of Cuneo has long been an active part in the diagnosis and therapy of these pathologies, with dedicated outpatient clinics in various specialist areas: Rheumatology, Pediatrics, Oncology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Neurology and Medical Genetics
Since this year, Cardiology, directed by Roberta Rossini, has activated a clinic dedicated to rare cardiological diseases, managed by Lucia Coppini and Francesca Giordana, to which patients suffering from pulmonary arterial hypertension, cardiac amyloidosis, sarcoidosis, Fabry syndrome and from other rare diseases with cardiological involvement. This clinic is the result of a multidisciplinary collaboration with Rheumatology, Respiratory Pathophysiology, Diagnostic Radiology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Nuclear Medicine, Nephrology, Hematology and Hospital Pharmacy. The integration of a diagnostic-therapeutic path designed on the type of pathology, together with the cooperation with the other Complex Structures involved and the dedication of the nursing staff of the Cardiology clinics coordinated by Vilma Bongiovanni, allows to guarantee patients a high standard of care.
