Advancing Personalized Medicine in Neurological Diseases Through Biomarker Research

The Andalusia-Roche Alliance has started recruiting patients for their research project ‘Personalized medicine in neurological diseases through the application of biomarkers to improve patient diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.’ Led by the head of the Neurology service at the Regional University Hospital of Málaga, Pedro Serrano, and Ibima-Bionand researcher Begoña Oliver, the objective of the project is to advance in early diagnosis and therapeutic alternatives for diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

The challenge lies in the development of scientific-technical methodologies for the determination of molecular and neuroimaging biomarkers, as well as neuropsychological tools. The project has brought together a research team made up of clinical and basic researchers from 13 SSPA hospitals based in the eight Andalusian provinces and belonging to the five research institutes in Andalusia.

The Andalusia-Roche Alliance for Precision Medical Neurology aims to develop research projects that allow the implementation of personalized medicine in the field of neurology. The projects and initiatives developed within the framework of this alliance will be structured through NeuroReca, the Andalusian Network for Clinical and Translational Research in Neurology, optimizing the synergies within the Andalusian Public Health System. The alliance plans to define a scientific program in Precision Medicine Neurology in neurological diseases, with investments of around one million euros mobilized so far. The project will bring leading professionals from Andalusian public health and young researchers, fostering public-private collaboration.
