The Sicilian regional council has recently appointed eight health managers, but it has been revealed that some of them have criminal proceedings underway. This information came to light during the examination of the CVs of the aspiring general managers of provincial health authorities, hospitals, and polyclinics on the island.

According to a report by the Dire, out of the 17 aspiring managers, eight of them have declared pending criminal charges. This includes individuals who have been appointed to lead prominent healthcare institutions such as the Canizzaro hospital in Catania, the Messina Polyclinic, and the Polyclinic. Among those who have declared pending charges are Roberto Colletti and Maria Grazia Furnari.

In contrast, nine of the managers appointed on the proposal of the Health Councilor Giovanna Volo have stated that they have no criminal proceedings underway. These appointments come at a time when Sicily is facing challenges in its healthcare system, and the news of criminal proceedings against some of the appointed managers has raised concerns among the public.

The situation has also caused delays in the appointment process, as the commission responsible for reviewing the appointments must now gather more information before giving its opinion. The regulation dictates that the commission must provide its opinion on the appointments within thirty days, but the deadline has been extended due to the need for additional insights from the government.

It is crucial for the public to understand the nature of the criminal proceedings declared by the aspiring managers and how they are linked to the profession they will be carrying out. This information is necessary for transparency and to ensure that the individuals appointed to crucial healthcare roles in Sicily are fit to serve in their positions.
