Apple, 12 million fine from Russia for the Kaspersky case

“From our point of view – they said by Kaspersky at the time of the events, in 2019 – Apple seems to use its position as owner of the platform to dictate the conditions and prevent other developers from operating on an equal footing with it”.

A heavy accusation, with consequent denunciation, culminating in today’s sentence. For its part, Apple has already made it known that it wants to react: “We respect the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia, but we do not agree with the decision and we will continue to appeal in due time.”

It should be remembered that a few weeks ago, again Apple, the Russian authorities had been forced to make a radical change in the management of applications that are found by default on iPhones.

Following the entry into force of a new law aimed at promoting the adoption of Russian software, while at the same time limiting dependence on applications designed by foreign companies (with the aim of gaining greater control over the web), iPhones that they end up in the Russian market and present, by default, a package of “made in Russia” applications that can be installed immediately, choosing to use them instead of the traditional ones from Apple.

There are eleven apps, which appear immediately upon activation of a new iPhone or iPad, and are provided directly by the Moscow government. These include the Yandex browser (which takes the place of Safari), but also Mail.ru, ICQ, the social network VK and the app for video streaming OK. It must be said that the installation remains optional, and the user can choose whether to use the traditional apps proposed by Apple.
