The first episodes of “Nurse for care” are online, the video column created by the nurses of the Sant’Andrea hospital-university company and the Sapienza University of Rome polyclinic, to help patients in the home management of some medical devices. The project aims to support patients in performing correctly and effectively some simple practices for the management, hygiene and replacement of medical aids, providing answers to the most frequently asked questions.
“Can I play sports? Can I take a bath?” These are the doubts of those who have a venous access inserted or who, following an operation, return home with an enterostomal bag. Answers and explanations provided by healthcare personnel when the patient is discharged, but which it is good to be able to receive at a later time, when you have returned home and are more inclined to listen. Video tutorial to review and learn how to empty the Heimlich valve for chest drainage or replace the enterostomy bag. Simple operations which, however, the patient or caregiver often fears not being able to carry out correctly independently. Aware of how such uncertainties can interfere with psychophysical recovery, or even turn into improper access to health facilities, the nurses of Sant’Andrea, coordinated by the Acting Director of Health Professions, Carmen Cappitella, videorecord short explanatory clips, posting them on the website www.ospedalesantandrea.it.
To the first three episodes, already online, new videos will be added monthly, the contents of which may also be suggested by the patients themselves. “The project – explains the General Manager, Daniela Donetti – stems from the desire to implement education and training in self-care, convinced that the patient, or those close to him, must play an active role in the psychophysical and to promote your health.”
