The De Amicis primary school in San Gualtero (Lodi) has been forced to close its gym and canteen building as a precautionary measure. The decision was made by the Municipality in order to protect the school population following an inspection that revealed concerning cracks in the structure.
The closure was prompted by a report from a structural consultant of the municipal administration, highlighting the evolution of the cracks between the historic building of the school and the newer building housing the gym and canteen. The older construction is believed to be at risk of structural instability.
As a result of the closure, the school has implemented the lunch in the classroom program, already in place during the Covid pandemic, to ensure students can still receive meals. Additionally, outdoor spaces will be utilized for physical activities normally held in the gym.
