Perhaps the world of video games would not have been the same if Atari had not been born on June 27, 1972. It was founded in California by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney who a year earlier had created a small company that had created “Computer Space”, one of the first “arcade” games, that is, in a “box” that worked like a pinball machine. The name Atari was chosen by coining it from a Japanese term which means checkmate; while the logo that recalls Mount Fuji is inspired by the three A’s of the Atari name. Already in November of the same year, the first game that made Atari famous was released: Pong, inspired by tennis, is considered the real beginning of the video game industry. For several years, Atari was the fastest growing company in the United States. Atari has changed owners several times but still exists and recently launched into the hotel business: it presented the project of a chain of hotels inspired by video games.
