AUSL Modena – Patient vandalizes psychiatric ward in Baggiovara, law enforcement intervened and alerted by nurses

In the early morning today – Saturday 17 February -, around 5.30 am, a patient admitted to the inpatient department of the Psychiatric and Treatment service at Baggiovara Hospital went into a rage, vandalizing walls and ceilings. The man hospitalized for mental problems had already shown signs of suffering and agitation during the night, so much so that he required the administration of some therapies. After a few hours, the patient – in a clear state of psychophysical alteration – tore down a door with which he vandalized various rooms in the department. The healthcare staff on duty, realizing what was happening, managed to immediately alert the police, avoiding any type of physical aggression both on other patients and on the staff on shift. The patient was arrested.

In light of the serious damage to the department, all hospitalized patients – 16 in total – will be temporarily transferred to other facilities.

The Modena Local Health Authority expresses its closeness to all the healthcare staff in the department, thanking them for the promptness with which the situation was managed. The safety of patients and healthcare workers is one of the company’s priorities, aware of the difficulty of welcoming and treating people with social and psychiatric problems.
