The South Area Hospice project was presented this morning, Friday 22 March, in the Sala delle Vedute at Castello di Spezzano: the mayor of Fiorano Modenese, Francesco, was present Tosi; the General Director of the Modena Local Health Authority, Anna Maria Petrini; the Director of the Sassuolo District, Federica Ronchetti; the Coordinator of the provincial palliative care network, Paolo Vacondio; the Director of the Single Technical Activities Service of the Modena Local Health Authority, Pasquale Rome; the President of the ‘Friends for Life’ Association, Christian Barbieri; and Silvana BorsariModena Foundation.
The territorial hospice – equipped with 14 beds available to the Districts of Pavullo, Sassuolo and Vignola – will be dedicated to palliative care, a type of care usually provided at home and in an outpatient setting, but which for some delicate, fragile and difficult situations in the family management of the patient, therefore requires the support of an intermediate care structure that has appropriate technology and experience.
The demographic structure of the southern area of the province of Modena records a progressive reduction in family members and an increase in people living alone. As a result, there are fewer natural caregivers made up of the family and consequently protected family contexts. This ever-increasing share of fragile patients represents the type of patient for whom it is appropriate to offer palliative care.
