Tax Visits 2024: New Standardized Timetables for INPS Checks in Case of Illness

The year 2024 has brought in an important change regarding the time slots for INPS checks in case of illness. The availability slots have been uniformed for employees of private companies and public employees. The rule providing for the possibility of checks on Sundays and public holidays also remains unchanged.

Workers in both private and public sectors must now adhere to the following time slots for INPS checks: from 10am to 12pm and from 5pm to 7pm every day, including weekends and holidays.

This change comes after INPS message no. 4640/2023, which was issued following the annulment of decree no. 206 of 17 October 2017 of the then Ministry of Simplification and Public Administration by the TAR of Lazio.

Previously, public sector workers were required to respect different availability slots compared to those for private employees. This differentiation was deemed unconstitutional, resulting in the standardization of the rules for tax visits in 2024.

The rules regarding exemptions and other related aspects of tax visits, including sanctions and modification methods for contact addresses, remain unchanged.

In case of illness, workers can contact their doctor who will draw up and send a sickness certificate to INPS electronically. The Institute can also perform checks on the employerā€™s request, taking into account the expected availability times at the provided address.

The issuance of a sickness certificate marks the start of the illness period, during which INPS may carry out checks. Workers can also change their contact address during the illness period, and must inform the relevant authorities accordingly.

Exemptions from tax visits are allowed in certain cases, for which valid justification is required. Failure to provide a valid justification for absence during tax visits can result in administrative sanctions and salary deductions for the worker.
