The masked strike continues in Asf. A summit with the trade unions is expected on Thursday, but to talk about the “production” awards, that is, the awards that employees would like to be recognized for the work done during the pandemic emergency.
In the meantime, the company also confirmed yesterday that about 6% of the journeys have been canceled, for a total of about 175 fewer buses, thanks to the absence of 15% of the drivers, about sixty workers left at home. An absence rate that has therefore even increased compared to recent days, when it still stood at 13%.
It should be remembered that from Friday the Green pass is mandatory to work and therefore sick leave, doubled compared to normal, could hide an important share of “no vax”.
The unions, however, reject this thesis, according to the main acronyms unvaccinated in Asf would be very few. For workers’ representatives, the obligation of certification was used by the company to conceal major chronic difficulties relating to the shortage of personnel. On the other hand, drivers continue to talk about wages that are too low and prizes promised and never arrived even after two difficult years of pandemic.
In this regard, the summit convened by the company on Thursday aims to find a balance and bring the clash back. However, all this has nothing to do with sick leave. The company does not offer a sure reading of the problems and the unions talk about contracts and working conditions.
That there are many drivers at home is clear. We must think that, with Asf data in hand, the absence rate among drivers in the last five years has fluctuated on average from 4.4% in 2019 to 5.8% in 2016, in 2020, with Covid in circulation, however, we were at 8%. Today that’s seven percentage points higher.
However, sick leave can be verified. Meanwhile, upstream, the doctor should ascertain a real need for treatment, which does not always happen. But the INPS with inspections can also ask the employees who stayed at home for an account. The director of the INPS of Como Rosaria Carriello makes it known that in addition to spot checks, companies can make specific requests. At the service in Como there are eight affiliated doctors who have to carry out home inspections every day, not many to tell the truth. Asf, however, does not want to give information on inspections, it does not specify whether or not it will ask for checks.
The truth is that on Thursday there is a summit with all the unions and everyone is hoping to bring this clash back by talking about prizes.
