BW State Nursing Chamber: Registration process is entering a crucial phase

The aim of the future state nursing chamber is to make a contribution to securing the need for skilled workers by increasing the attractiveness of the profession.

With the founding committee sending an information letter to potential members of a state nursing chamber, the registration process is now entering the decisive phase. On this occasion, Social and Health Minister Manne Lucha once again emphasized the importance of self-government for the profession. “The nursing staff now have the chance to decide on self-management. Nursing needs its own strong voice. This is the only way she can speak on an equal footing with other professional groups and effectively represent her professional interests. I am sure that we are on the right track with the Nursing Chamber for Baden-Württemberg,” said Lucha on Monday (January 8th) in Stuttgart.

The aim of the future State Nursing Chamber is to make a contribution to securing the need for skilled workers by increasing the attractiveness of the profession. Important tasks are to be gradually transferred to the nursing chamber. This includes, among other things, the representation of professional matters and the promotion of training. This allows nursing staff to actively shape and further develop their professional profile. Quality measures, prevention, promotion and protection of the health of the population as well as further education and training should also be added to the chamber’s areas of responsibility. With their own chamber, nursing staff should be able to approach their issues in a self-determined manner and thus be able to act on an equal footing with other health professions such as the medical profession.

Over 114,000 nursing staff have now been recorded

The founding committee for a state nursing chamber in Baden-Württemberg has now registered over 114,000 nursing staff as members of a future chamber. In the letter, the nursing staff will be informed by the founding committee in the coming days about their registration and the further procedure for their registration. The registered nursing staff have until February 23, 2024 to file an objection to their planned registration. The State Nursing Chamber will only be established if at least 60 percent of the nursing staff do not object to registration. If the quorum is reached, the next step is the election to the first representative meeting of the chamber. When this meets for the first time, the nursing chamber is founded. This could probably be the case at the end of 2024.
